Here is a continuation of my participation in #RPGaDAY2015 .
10th: Favourite RPG Publisher
Tricky. I don’t often think of publishers, just the writers themselves. There are many that I like a lot:
- Lamentations of the Flame Princess (especially for Vornheim, Death Frost Doom, Qelong and A Red and Pleasant Land)
- Korthalis (Crimson Dragon Slayer and How to Game Master like a F&*king Boss)
- New Big Dragon (Petty Gods and Creature Compendium)
- Red Box Vancouver (Dungeon Planet, Truncheon World)
But for the time being, off the top of my head, I’d say Pelgrane Press. I simply love every game that they’ve released. Some day I hope to run Trail of Cthulhu, the Esoterrorists or Night’s Black Agents. I also really like Kenneth Hite’s column: “Writes About Stuff”. Lots of great stuff and, even though it is controversial to say so, I find that their rules are quite innovative. Yeah I said it: that makes me a heretic amongst certain crowds.
Anyway, Pelgrane seems to be a great company with great writers. Would like to see more from them.
11th: Favourite RPG Writer
Again, a tough one to say. Some of my favorites include Monte Cook, Kenneth Hite, Zak Smith, Rafael Chandler, Luke Crane and the boys behind Dungeon World (Sage LaTorra and Adam Koebel).
For being just a simple pleasure to read, though, I’ll go with Greg Stafford. I first found out about him through Prince Valiant and then the Call of Cthulhu RPG. Solid, historical, old school but progressive. At least, that’s how I perceive him. You may disagree and I don’t care! 🙂
12th: Favourite RPG Illustration
Nearly impossible for me to narrow down. Instead, I’ll post a few that I was able to find through a few frenzied google image searches. Several I simply could not locate. One in particular, by Adrian Smith, was featured in the Realms of Chaos: the Lost and the Damned. It featured two Chaos Champions standing by their monoliths upon which were etched their tales. Of particular note was the inscription of a Chaos God’s full name: Njwarthakh Lzimbarr Tzeentch. Pretty cool…
